Enfusion Fittings

The Vulcathene Enfusion range is a high-performance laboratory drainage system designed specifically for the safe removal of aggressive chemical waste. Manufactured by Durapipe, this system uses permanent fusion-welded joints to deliver exceptional reliability in environments where failure is simply not an option.

Commonly specified in laboratories, universities, hospitals, research facilities and industrial buildings, Vulcathene Enfusion offers a robust, chemically resistant solution for gravity chemical waste drainage systems.

Key Features & Technical Overview

  • Manufacturer: Durapipe
  • Material: Black co-polymer polypropylene
  • Application: Chemical waste drainage systems
  • Jointing method: Permanent Enfusion resistance welding
  • Joint type: Non-demountable, fully fused

Fusion welding produces a permanent, leak-free joint, making Vulcathene Enfusion ideal for installations where long-term chemical resistance and joint integrity are critical.

Why Choose Vulcathene Enfusion?

Unlike mechanical jointing methods, Enfusion fittings create a homogeneous joint at the pipe interface, removing potential leak paths and significantly reducing the risk of joint failure over time.

Benefits at a glance:

  • Permanent, tamper-proof joints
  • Excellent resistance to a wide range of laboratory chemicals
  • Controlled, repeatable jointing process
  • Reduced maintenance compared to demountable systems
  • Ideal for concealed or difficult-to-access installations

For systems where maximum security and chemical durability are required, Enfusion is often the preferred choice.

Comprehensive Range of Enfusion Fittings

The Vulcathene Enfusion range mirrors the flexibility of the Mechanical system, offering a wide selection of fittings to suit complex laboratory layouts.

Couplings & Adaptors

  • Straight couplings, slip couplings and reducing couplings
  • BSP male and BSP female threaded adaptors for transitions to other systems

Bends & Directional Changes

  • Short and long radius 92.5° bends
  • Long swept and short swept bends
  • 135° slow bends and single socket bends
  • Swept loose nut bends for directional flexibility

Branching & Connections

  • Swept tees and reducing swept tees
  • 45° Y-branches and reducing Y-branches
  • Double branch tees for multi-line connections

Traps & Specialist Components

  • P-traps and U-bends for odour control
  • Glass adaptors for laboratory equipment connections
  • Cleanout plugs for rodding and maintenance access

Flanges & System Accessories

  • Undrilled and drilled flanges
  • BS10 flange gaskets
  • Thermal stress relief units for system protection

This breadth of fittings allows complete system design using a single, fully matched chemical waste solution.

Compatibility with Vulcathene Mechanical Systems

Vulcathene Enfusion and Vulcathene Mechanical fittings are fully compatible and can be used together within the same pipe system.

This makes Enfusion ideal for:

  • Permanent main runs
  • Concealed installations
  • High-risk areas

While Mechanical fittings can be used where future access or demountability is required.

How the Enfusion Joint Works

Enfusion fittings are manufactured with an integral resistance wire embedded within the socket. When connected to an Enfusion Control Unit, this wire heats in a controlled manner, fusing the pipe and fitting together into a single, permanent joint.

Why Enfusion jointing is so reliable:

  • Controlled fit - consistent pipe insertion depth
  • Controlled temperature - regulated by the control unit
  • Controlled time - precise welding cycles every time

The resistance wire is made from a heavy-gauge nickel/chrome alloy, ensuring uniform heating and excellent chemical resistance.

Making an Enfusion Joint - Step-by-Step Guide

Before You Start

  • Ensure the power supply delivers 104–126 volts, 45–65 cycles, with 16 amp capacity
  • Fully unwind all cables from the Enfusion Control Unit

Joint Preparation

  • Cut the pipe square and remove all burrs
  • Do not chamfer the pipe
  • Scrape the pipe end to the socket depth plus 50%
  • Do not touch or contaminate the prepared surface
  • Insert the pipe fully into the fitting socket

Welding Process

  • Fit and lightly tighten clamps to prevent pipe rotation
  • Power on the Enfusion Control Unit and allow it to self-test
  • Connect output leads to the fitting (or link leads for multiple joints)
  • Start the welding cycle using the control unit
  • Allow the unit to complete the timed weld cycle

Cooling & Completion

  • Wait 30 seconds before disconnecting leads
  • Leave the joint undisturbed for at least 5 minutes
  • Remove clamps once fully cooled

The result is a state-of-the-art fusion joint that delivers long-term reliability with minimal installation time.
