PVCu Inch

Effast PVCu inch systems are a high-performance solution for industrial liquid handling applications, offering excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals. Manufactured from unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVCu), these dark grey pipework components are suitable for transporting potable water, diluted acids, alkalis, salts, and water-soluble solvents. With a smooth bore for reduced friction and minimal limescale build-up, Effast PVCu systems are ideal for long-term service with a typical design life of up to 50 years at rated pressure.

Application

  • Potable cold water systems
  • Food and beverage processing
  • Chemical handling and dosing systems
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Swimming pools and spa circuits
  • Agricultural irrigation and fertiliser delivery
  • General industrial process pipework
  • Note: PVCu is not suitable for use with compressed air or aromatic/chlorinated hydrocarbons.

  • Operating Temperature: 0°C to +60°C
  • Pressure Ratings: up to 15 bar, depending on product
  • Chemical Resistance: Excellent against diluted acids, alkalis, salts, and water-based solvents
  • Standards:
    – Pipes: BS 3505/6, BS EN 1452-2
    – Fittings: BS 4346-1, BS EN 1452-3
    – Threaded components: BS 21, DIN 2999, ISO 7

Installation Overview

  • Cut the Pipe – Use a plastic pipe saw or wheel cutter for a clean, square cut.
  • Chamfer the End – File a 3mm x 45° chamfer to prevent solvent removal during insertion.
  • Dry Fit and Mark – Insert the pipe into the fitting and mark the insertion depth.
  • Abrade and Clean – Lightly abrade pipe and fitting with emery cloth, then clean with MEK Cleaner.
  • Apply Solvent Cement – Use a clean brush to apply cement to both surfaces.
  • Assemble Quickly – Push the pipe fully home into the fitting without twisting.
  • Hold and Cure – Hold the joint in place briefly, then allow a minimum of 24 hours curing time before pressure testing.
  • Pressure Testing – Test the system at 1.5 times the rated pressure.
  • Safety Tip: Work in a well-ventilated area and avoid open flames or smoking during installation. Do not use sealing paste.
