Hot Corrosive Liquids - PP-b / PP-h

Our polypropylene pipework systems are specifically engineered for the safe conveyance of hot, aggressive and chemically corrosive fluids across demanding industrial environments. As an authorised distributor of a fully matched PP system, Pipestock is proud to supply a complete, high-performance polypropylene range that delivers long-term reliability, chemical resistance and ease of installation.

Manufactured from polypropylene block copolymer (PP-B), polypropylene homopolymer (PP-H) and polypropylene random copolymer (PP-R), this system offers excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, effluents and aggressive process fluids, even at elevated temperatures. With sizes ranging from 16mm up to 400mm, pressure ratings up to 10 bar, and jointing options including socket fusion, electrofusion and butt fusion, PP pipework is a proven solution for industrial process lines where metal systems would corrode or fail prematurely.

Why Choose Polypropylene?

Polypropylene is one of the most chemically resistant thermoplastics used in industrial pipework today. Unlike metals, it will not corrode, pit or scale, and unlike some plastics, PP-B offers excellent impact resistance, even at sub-zero temperatures.

Core Material Advantages

  • Smooth Bore
    • Low internal friction reduces pressure loss and energy consumption while allowing high volume flow
  • High Impact Strength
    • PP-B outperforms homopolymer polypropylene, particularly in cold environments, reducing the risk of brittle failure during installation or operation
  • Chemical Resistance
    • Resistant to most acids, alkalis and inorganic chemicals, with minimal water absorption and excellent long-term stability
  • Lightweight & Easy to Install
    • Lower density than many thermoplastics makes handling easier and installation faster, especially on larger diameter systems
  • Maintenance Free
    • Will not rust, rot or degrade when buried underground or cast into concrete
  • Thermal Insulation
    • Poor heat conductivity reduces condensation compared to metal systems
  • Environmental Stress Crack Resistance
    • Polypropylene is highly resistant to environmental stress cracking, outperforming many polyethylene grades

Typical Applications

PP systems are widely used in industries where chemical compatibility, temperature resistance and system integrity are critical, including:

  • Chemical processing & transfer
  • Acid and alkali transportation
  • Industrial effluent & waste treatment
  • Pharmaceutical & biotechnology facilities
  • Hospitals and laboratory drainage
  • Water treatment plants
  • Brewing and distilling
  • Food and beverage production
  • Electronics manufacturing
  • Nuclear and specialist process industries

Fluids commonly conveyed include acids, alcohols, brines, de-ionised water, plating solutions, sugar solutions, solvents, slurries and ultra-pure water.

PP-B Pipe - Metric

High-performance pressure pipe manufactured from PP-B for industrial duty applications:

  • 6 bar PP-B Pipe
  • 10 bar PP-B Pipe

Suitable for socket fusion, electrofusion and butt fusion systems.

PP-B Metric Pipe Fittings (Plain)

A comprehensive range of socket fusion fittings for building fully welded systems:

  • Sockets, elbows (45° & 90°), tees, bends
  • Caps, unions and reducing bushes
  • Stub flanges, full face flanges and blanking flanges
  • Metric × imperial transition fittings

Manufactured to DIN 16962 and designed for high integrity pressure systems.

PP-B Threaded Fittings

Ideal where demountable or mixed-material connections are required:

  • Threaded sockets, elbows, tees and unions
  • Barrel nipples, plugs and reducing bushes
  • BSP and flange-ended options available

Threaded fittings are typically rated to lower pressures than fusion-welded joints.

PPh Valves & Strainers - Metric

A full industrial valve range manufactured to DIN standards:

  • Ball valves (plain, spigot, BSP, EPDM or FPM seals)
  • 3-way ball valves
  • Non-return valves (wafer, spring-loaded and BSP)
  • Butterfly valves
  • Air release valves
  • Diaphragm valves
  • Foot valves
  • Y strainers

Designed for precise flow control and chemical compatibility.

PP-B Pipe - Inch

Traditional inch-sized pressure pipe to BS 4991:

  • Class A (3 bar)
  • Class B (6 bar)
  • Class C (9 bar)
  • Class D (12 bar)
  • Class E (15 bar)

PP-B Inch Pipe Fittings

Socket fusion and threaded fittings to suit inch PP systems:

  • Elbows, tees, sockets, unions and caps
  • Stub flanges and NP10/16 flanges
  • Plain × threaded adaptors

Polypropylene Electrofusion & Butt Fusion

For critical installations requiring maximum joint integrity:

  • Electrofusion sockets, elbows, tees and reducing fittings
  • Short spigot fittings for confined spaces
  • Butt fusion bends, tees and stub flanges
  • Available in 6 bar and 10 bar options

Electrofusion provides a controlled, repeatable weld ideal for high-risk process lines.

PP Natural (Pure / Unpigmented) Pipe - Inch

Used where maximum purity is required:

  • 6 bar, 9 bar and 12 bar options
  • Ideal for ultra-pure water and contamination-sensitive applications

PP Natural Pipe Fittings

Matching natural PP fittings including:

  • Sockets, elbows, tees and bends
  • Stub flanges, end caps and unions
  • Plain × BSP threaded adaptors

Chemical Resistance & Performance

Polypropylene demonstrates extremely low water absorption and outstanding resistance to most inorganic chemicals. While highly resistant to acids and alkalis, care should be taken with strong oxidising agents, particularly at elevated temperatures or under mechanical stress. Full chemical resistance data is available on request.
