PP Natural Pipe Fittings

Our PP Natural Pipe Fittings are designed for demanding industrial environments where chemical resistance, purity, and reliable performance at elevated temperatures are essential. Manufactured from polypropylene block copolymer (PP-B), these fittings form part of a robust thermoplastic pipework system commonly used throughout chemical processing, laboratory, pharmaceutical, and water treatment applications.

PP-B combines excellent chemical resistance with improved impact strength at lower temperatures compared to standard homopolymer polypropylene. This makes PP Natural fittings particularly well suited to installations where both mechanical resilience and chemical compatibility are critical.

Manufactured in accordance with BS 4991:1974 Series 1, these fittings are engineered to provide smooth internal flow paths, dependable joint integrity, and long service life when used within their recommended operating conditions.

Key Features & Technical Specifications

  • Material: Polypropylene block copolymer (PP-B)
  • Colour: Natural / unpigmented
  • Temperature range: -20°C to +90°C (continuous operation)
  • Chemical resistance: Excellent resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis, salts, and industrial fluids
  • Smooth bore: Low pressure loss and high flow efficiency
  • Standard: Manufactured to BS 4991:1974 Series 1
  • Purity: Contains no pigments - ideal where contamination risk must be minimised
  • Outdoor use: Not recommended (PP Natural is not UV stabilised)

Why Choose PP Natural (PP-B) Fittings?

  • Excellent Chemical Resistance
    • Polypropylene is well known for its resistance to chemical attack, particularly in aqueous and inorganic environments. PP-B performs exceptionally well when conveying acids, alkalis, brines, de-ionised water, and many industrial process fluids, even at elevated temperatures
  • High Purity & Contamination Control
    • Unlike pigmented polypropylene systems, PP Natural fittings contain no colourants, making them suitable for ultra-clean processes where product purity is critical. This makes them a popular choice in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, laboratory, and ultra-pure water applications
  • Smooth Bore for Efficient Flow
    • The smooth internal surface of PP Natural fittings reduces frictional losses, helping to maintain high flow rates while minimising pressure drop and the risk of material build-up within the system
  • Lightweight & Easy to Handle
    • With a lower density than many other thermoplastics, polypropylene fittings are easy to handle, transport, and install - reducing installation time and on-site labour costs without compromising strength
  • Impact & Wear Resistance
    • Block copolymer PP-B offers superior impact resistance compared to homopolymer polypropylene, particularly at sub-zero temperatures. Combined with good abrasion resistance, this makes PP Natural fittings suitable for slurry conveyance and mechanically demanding environments

Typical Applications

PP Natural pipe fittings are widely used across a broad range of industries, including:

  • Chemical processing and transfer
  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology plants
  • Hospital and laboratory drainage systems
  • Water treatment and filtration systems
  • Brewing, distilling, and beverage processing
  • Food and hygiene-critical applications
  • Industrial effluent and waste systems
  • De-ionised and de-mineralised water lines
  • Acid and alkali conveyance
  • Pickling, etching, and plating solutions

Chemical & Environmental Performance

Polypropylene exhibits extremely low water absorption (typically less than 0.03% after 24 hours immersion) and maintains dimensional stability in most aqueous environments. It is resistant to most strong mineral acids and bases, although care should be taken with strong oxidising agents, particularly at elevated temperatures or under mechanical stress.

Where organic chemicals are involved, performance is influenced by temperature and the polarity of the fluid. In many cases, any absorption effects are reversible once the material is removed from the environment.
