Pipe Clips & Fixing Systems

Pipe brackets provide essential support and stability for all types of pipe installations, ensuring secure, fixed positioning along walls, ceilings, or floors. They prevent pipe movement, sagging, and vibration, helping to maintain system integrity and extend the life of the pipework.

Available in a wide range of sizes and designs, pipe brackets accommodate various pipe materials including copper, steel, and multilayer systems. However, some products—such as Flamco EPDM rubber-lined pipe clips - are not suitable for plastic pipes.

Whether used in domestic plumbing, heating systems, or commercial installations, pipe brackets play a crucial role in creating neat, safe, and compliant pipe runs.

Types Of Pipe Clips

MDPE Pipe Brackets:

  • Specifically designed to support medium-density polyethylene pipe
  • Typically plastic or metal with a larger diameter range
  • Suitable for external and water service installations

Rubber-Lined Pipe Clamps:

  • Steel clamps lined with EPDM rubber
  • Absorbs vibration and noise
  • Ideal for copper and steel systems (not recommended for plastic pipes)

Stainless Steel Pipe Brackets:

  • Corrosion-resistant for hygienic or harsh environments
  • Suitable for food-grade, pharmaceutical, or marine pipework
  • Available in various clamp styles

Galvanised Pipe Brackets:

  • Zinc-coated for corrosion protection
  • Common in industrial and exposed environments
  • Durable, with a wide range of sizes and fitting options

Pipe Brackets with Safety Clip:

  • Designed to secure pipe firmly and prevent accidental release
  • Often used in high-vibration or overhead installations
  • Ensures extra safety in mechanical and commercial systems

How Far Apart Should Pipe Clips Be?

1. Copper or Steel Pipe (Horizontal):

  • ≤ 15mm diameter: Every 1.2 metres
  • 22–28mm diameter: Every 1.5 metres
  • ≥ 35mm diameter: Every 2.0 metres

Plastic Pipe (MDPE, PEX, uPVC – Horizontal):

  • ≤ 25mm diameter: Every 0.5 to 0.6 metres
  • ≥ 32mm diameter: Every 0.8 to 1.0 metres
  • Plastic pipes require more frequent support due to flexibility and expansion

Vertical Runs (All Materials):

  • Brackets typically every 2.0 to 2.5 metres
  • Additional support near bends and terminations is recommended

How To Remove Pipe Clips

Identify the Clip Type:

  • Snap-Fit / Plastic Clip: Common in domestic plastic pipe installations.
  • Screw-Fixed Metal Clip: Typically used in commercial or metal pipe systems.
  • Rubber-Lined Clamp / Split Ring: Used for copper or steel pipes.

Isolate and Support the Pipe:

  • If live, turn off water supply and drain the pipe where needed.
  • Use temporary supports or wedges to prevent pipe movement during removal.

Open or Release the Clip:

  • Snap-Fit Clips:
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry open the clip from the side.
  • Lift the pipe out once loose.
  • Screw-Fixed Clips:
  • Unscrew the fastener(s) holding the clip to the wall or bracket using a screwdriver or power driver.
  • Remove the clip and lift the pipe free.
  • Rubber-Lined or Split Ring Brackets:
  • Unscrew the fixing bolt or hinge.
  • Open the clamp and lift the pipe out.

Remove Wall Fixings (if necessary):

  • For plugs or anchors, use pliers or a wall plug extractor.
  • Fill and finish the surface if no replacement clip is being fitted.
