Description
The Vulcathene Enfusion Thermal Stress Relief Unit is designed to manage thermal expansion and contraction within chemical waste drainage systems, helping to reduce stress on pipework and fused joints caused by temperature variation.
These units are installed within straight pipe runs and allow controlled axial movement while maintaining a sealed connection. They are suitable for both vertical and horizontal installations, provided correct orientation is observed so that the outflow end of the fitting is positioned correctly.
Each size variant incorporates design features specific to the pipe diameter, ensuring effective stress relief while maintaining system integrity. The units are fused into the pipework using the Enfusion Control Unit, delivering a controlled electrofusion joint with consistent temperature, timing and joint quality.
Manufactured from black co-polymer polypropylene, the stress relief units offer excellent chemical resistance and durability in laboratory, healthcare and industrial waste environments. They are particularly beneficial in long pipe runs, buried installations, ceiling voids and drainage stacks where thermal movement is more pronounced.
Size-Specific Installation Guidance
38mm Thermal Stress Relief Unit (L801):
Designed for use with 38mm pipework and suitable for vertical or horizontal installation. The end with the moulded fixing clip must be positioned as the outflow end. During installation, the pipe should be inserted fully into the socket, marked, then withdrawn by 38mm to allow for movement.
51mm Thermal Stress Relief Unit (L802):
Designed for 51mm pipework and suitable for vertical or horizontal installation. The collar end forms the outflow side of the fitting. The unit must be anchored using a metal clamp positioned around the body just below the collar ridge, allowing the pipe within the collar to expand and contract freely.
152mm Thermal Stress Relief Unit:
Designed for 152mm pipework and suitable for vertical or horizontal installation. The spigot end must be positioned as the outflow end. The unit must be anchored using a metal clamp positioned on top of the moulded locators around the body, allowing controlled pipe movement. This version incorporates an integral O-ring seal within the body.
