Applications

Kelm One-Touch Valves are used throughout pneumatic systems to manage air movement and system efficiency.

Typical uses include:

  • Controlling the speed and motion of air cylinders and actuators
  • Managing air supply lines in automation equipment
  • Providing shut-off or metered flow in maintenance or calibration setups
  • Supporting vacuum operations where precise control is essential

Shut-Off Valves vs Flow Controllers

Although both are classified as valves, shut-off valves and flow controllers serve very different purposes within a pneumatic circuit:

Shut-Off Valves

  • Designed to completely stop or allow air flow
  • Function like an on/off switch, isolating parts of a system during maintenance or preventing unwanted movement
  • Commonly installed at supply points or between system sections for safety and serviceability

Flow Controllers (or Flow Control Valves)

  • Used to regulate the speed of airflow, not just stop or start it
  • Allow operators to fine-tune the rate at which air enters or leaves an actuator, providing precise motion control
  • Often fitted directly on actuators or cylinders to achieve smooth, accurate operation

In short, a shut-off valve controls whether air flows, while a flow controller governs how fast it flows. Both are essential for maintaining efficiency, control, and safety in pneumatic systems.
