Fernco Multibush

Useful Information

What is a Multibush Used For?

The Fernco (formerly known as Flexseal) Multibush, is an adaptable bushing component used in conjunction with Shear Banded Couplings or Lateral Connection Saddles. Its primary function is to adjust the outside diameter of a pipe, making it compatible with the coupling or saddle when the original pipe diameter is too small. This adaptability is particularly useful in scenarios where the outside diameters of the pipes to be connected differ significantly.

Key Features

  • Adaptable Thicknesses: The Multibush is a foldable bush that can adapt to three different thicknesses, suiting a variety of connection scenarios.
  • Versatile Use: Available in sizes DN100, DN150, and DN200, allowing connections of any two pipe materials of the same nominal diameter.
  • Stock Efficiency: Reduces the need for different configurations of stock, thereby improving responsiveness to unforeseen connection requirements.
  • Compatibility with Unisaddles: The DN150 Multibush is suitable for Unisaddles (FA150U and FA150B), enabling connections of any DN150 pipe into larger diameter main concrete drainage pipes.
  • High-Performance Seal: Provides a robust seal on low-pressure pipes, complying with industry standards.

Specifications

  • Size Range: Available in DN100, DN150, and DN200.
  • Material: Manufactured to meet the WIS standard and conform to BS EN 681-1.
  • Application: Ideal for use with both shear banded couplings and lateral connection saddles.

How and Where to Install a Multibush

Installing the Fernco Multibush involves the following steps:

  1. Marking the Pipes: On both pipes to be connected, mark a point from the end, half the width of the coupling, minus the required joint gap (usually 10mm).
  2. Preparing the Coupling: Slide the coupling fully over the largest pipe.
  3. Attaching the Multibush: Slide the Multibush onto the smaller pipe.
  4. Positioning the Pipes: Align the pipes and slide the coupling over the smaller pipe and Multibush until the coupling face aligns with the mark on the largest pipe.
  5. Securing the Connection: Tighten the clamp bands across the width of the coupling, starting with the central shear band. Follow the recommended torque sequence for optimal results. After bedding the pipe, retighten the clamps prior to backfilling to ensure a secure fit.
