Fernco Moulded Bush

Fernco (previously known as Flexseal) Bushes, are primarily used as additional components in conjunction with Shear Banded Couplings or Lateral Connection Saddles in drainage systems. Their main function is to increase the outside diameter of a pipe to ensure a snug and secure fit when the existing pipe is too small for the coupling or saddle being used. This is particularly useful in scenarios where pipes with significantly different diameters need to be connected.

Fernco Bushes are straightforward to install:

1. With Shear Banded Couplings: Check the maximum tolerance between the outside diameters of the pipes to be connected. If the difference exceeds this tolerance, use a bush to fill the gap on the smaller pipe.
2. With Lateral Connection Saddles: When connecting pipes (other than clay) into saddles designed for thicker-walled materials, use a bush to increase the outside diameter of the pipe to fit within the saddle’s tightening range.
3. Fit the Bush: Place the bush over the smaller diameter pipe to fill the void between the pipe and the inside of the coupling or saddle.

Compliance Note: For adopted drainage pipelines, as specified under WIS 4-41-01, a Shear Banded Coupling and Bush should be used to ensure alignment and protection against vertical shear loads.
