Installation Guide For Fernco Floodbags
Important: Fernco Floodbags are designed for quick, easy deployment in flood emergencies. They can be used both indoors and outdoors to create an instant barrier or absorb leaks from water systems and appliances. Always wear gloves when handling used bags that may have come into contact with contaminated floodwater.
Tools & Materials Required
- Clean water source (e.g. bucket, basin, bath, or hose)
- Gloves (for hygiene and handling)
- Scissors (to open packaging)
Supplied Format
- Vacuum-packed set of 5 pre-filled dry floodbags
- Each pack is lightweight and compact for easy transport and storage
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open the Pack
- Carefully cut open the vacuum-sealed pack using scissors.
- Remove the individual dry floodbags, taking care not to puncture them.
- Hydrate the Bags
- Fully submerge each floodbag in clean water for a minimum of 5 minutes.
- The bag will expand uniformly, absorbing up to 20 litres of water.
- Once fully hydrated, the bag will feel firm and reach a height of approximately 200 mm.
- Deploy as a Barrier
- Place expanded floodbags side by side across the entry point (e.g. door, garage, air brick).
- For added protection, stack a second row on top, offsetting over the joins to ensure stability.
- Floodbags can be layered to build a taller barrier as required.
Internal Use (Leak Absorption)
- Dry floodbags can be deployed directly to absorb leaks from water tanks, pipework, appliances or bathroom overflows.
- Place the bag beneath or around the leak source for quick water uptake in difficult-to-access areas.
Post-Use Handling & Disposal
- Once the flood event has passed, wear gloves when handling used bags.
- Floodbags may contain contaminants depending on exposure to floodwater.
- Dispose of contents responsibly in accordance with local waste regulations. The biodegradable material is environmentally friendly.
