PCL Air Tools

PCL’s comprehensive range of air tools is engineered to withstand the demands of busy, modern workshops. From heavy-duty automotive tasks to precision finishing work, PCL offers a wide selection of pneumatic solutions, including air impact wrenches, ratchets, nail and staple guns, grinders, sanders, chisels, saws, drills, and many other specialised tools for a variety of applications.

Designed to handle jobs of any scale, PCL air tools are built for performance, reliability, and operator comfort. To make selection simple, the range is divided into three categories:

  • PRESTIGE Range - Engineered for medium to large operations, delivering maximum performance for serious professional users.

  • PRO Range - Ideal for everyday tradespeople, offering cost-effective tools that balance quality and performance for routine and repetitive work.

  • MINI Range - Compact yet powerful tools designed for occasional use, providing the same trusted PCL quality in a smaller format.

With options to suit every user - from occasional operators to professional engineers - PCL air tools deliver durability, efficiency, and consistent results across every application.

How Do Pneumatic Tools Work?

Pneumatic tools, also known as air tools, are powered by compressed air supplied from an air compressor. Instead of relying on electricity or batteries, these tools use the energy stored in pressurised air to drive mechanical motion.

The process begins when the compressor forces air into a storage tank, where it is held under pressure. When an air tool is connected and activated, this pressurised air is released through the tool’s inlet. The flow of air drives an internal motor or mechanism - such as a vane motor, piston, or hammer system - which then produces the required movement, whether it’s rotation, impact, chiselling, or sanding.

Because compressed air can deliver high torque and power in a compact form, pneumatic tools are lighter and often more durable than their electric counterparts. They also run cooler and are less prone to overheating, making them ideal for continuous use in workshops, garages, and industrial environments.

Pneumatic systems also allow multiple tools to be powered from a single compressor, offering flexibility and efficiency for a wide range of tasks - from tightening bolts with an impact wrench to precision sanding or drilling.

Key Points To Know Before Buying An Air Tool

  • Check Air Consumption (CFM):
Each air tool requires a specific airflow, measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). Always ensure your air compressor can supply the required CFM at the correct working pressure (PSI). A mismatch can lead to poor performance or tool damage.

  • Match the Compressor to the Tool:
The compressor should have at least 30% more CFM capacity than the tool’s demand, especially if you plan to run multiple tools simultaneously.

  • Consider Duty Cycle:
Some tools (e.g., impact wrenches) are used in short bursts, while others (e.g., grinders, sanders) run continuously and need higher airflow. Choose your compressor size accordingly.

  • Check Air Pressure (PSI):
Most tools operate around 90 PSI, but always verify your tool’s specifications. Too little pressure reduces efficiency, while too much can damage seals or internals.

  • Hose Size and Air Inlet:
Ensure your airline and fittings match the tool’s inlet size. Using hoses that are too small restricts airflow, reducing power output.

  • Maintenance Requirements:
Some tools require regular lubrication with oil or an in-line lubricator. Check the manufacturer’s guidance for correct maintenance.

  • Type of Application:
Select the right tool for the job - impact wrenches for high-torque applications, ratchets for confined spaces, or grinders and sanders for continuous finishing work.
