Installation Instructions

  1. Planning: Outline the pipe route, avoiding sharp bends and extreme environments.
  2. Cutting: Measure and cut the pipe with a PEX cutter for a straight edge.
  3. Pipe Inserts: If using plastic fittings, insert a pipe stiffener into the pipe end to maintain integrity and prevent collapse.
  4. Fitting Insertion: For push-fit fittings, push into the pipe until secure. For crimp or clamp fittings, position and secure using the appropriate tool.
  5. Routing: Carefully route the pipe, avoiding kinks and using pipe clips to secure it at regular intervals.
  6. Fixture Connection: Connect the pipe to the fixtures, ensuring all connections are tight.
  7. Leak Testing: Turn on the water supply gradually, checking for leaks and addressing any immediately.
  8. Insulation: Insulate the pipe in areas prone to freezing.
  9. Compliance Check: Ensure the installation adheres to local building and plumbing codes.

What is the Difference Between PEX and PB Pipe?

PEX (Crosslinked Polyethylene) and PB (Polybutylene) pipes are both popular for plumbing applications, but they have key differences:

  1. Material Composition: PEX is crosslinked polyethylene, providing enhanced strength and thermal properties. PB is polybutylene, a form of plastic less resistant to high temperatures and pressures compared to PEX.
  2. Durability: PEX pipes offer greater long-term stability and resistance to stress cracking, making them more suitable for high-temperature applications and environments with potential external damage.
  3. Flexibility: Both PEX and PB are flexible, but PEX typically offers superior rigidity, helping to minimize sagging while still allowing easy routing through difficult spaces.

How to Connect Copper Pipe to PEX

Utilizing push-fit fittings is an efficient and user-friendly method to connect copper pipe to PEX pipe. Here's a streamlined guide:

  1. Prepare the Pipes:
    Copper Pipe: Cut the copper pipe to the required length. Ensure the cut is clean and the end is deburred.
    PEX Pipe: Use a PEX cutter to make a straight cut on the PEX pipe.
  2. Select Suitable Push-Fit Fittings: Choose push-fit fittings that are compatible with both copper and PEX pipes.
  3. Install the Fitting on the Copper Pipe: Clean the end of the copper pipe to remove any debris. Push the copper pipe into the push-fit fitting until it reaches the stop. Ensure it's fully seated for a secure connection.
  4. Connect the PEX Pipe: Insert the end of the PEX pipe into the other side of the push-fit fitting, pushing until it hits the stop point.
  5. Secure the Connection: Check that both the copper and PEX pipes are firmly attached to the fitting with no gaps.
  6. Leak Testing: Slowly turn on the water supply and inspect the connection for leaks. If any are found, ensure the pipes are fully inserted into the fitting.
  7. Final Inspection: Ensure that the connection is stable and there is no movement at the joint. The fitting should be snug on both the copper and PEX pipes.
