Vulcathene Pipe

Vulcathene Pipe is a highly specialised component designed for laboratory drainage systems. It's engineered to safely transport chemical effluents, making it essential in lab setups. It is also the only laboratory drainage system with BBA approval 19/5644.

Simplified Installation Process:

1. Measurement and Cutting: Measure the area where the pipe will be installed and cut the pipe to the required length.
2. Choose Jointing Method: Decide between enfusion (for permanent, welded joints) or mechanical jointing (for demountable joints).
3. Preparation: Prepare the pipe and fittings according to the chosen jointing method.
4. Jointing: For enfusion, use a control unit to heat the resistance wire in the fittings. For mechanical jointing, connect using the nut and tongued-olive method.
5. Final Check: Ensure all joints are secure and the system is correctly assembled.

Waste Pipe Slope

For efficient operation of the Vulcathene drainage system, it is crucial to install horizontal waste pipes with a natural gradient towards the Vulcathene stack. We recommend maintaining a slope between 2° and 3° to optimize waste flow. Ensure that the slope of the waste pipes is never less than 1° to maintain effective drainage.

Supporting Vulcathene Pipe

For horizontal pipe runs at room temperature, continuous support isn't typically required. Use Vulcathene pipe clips at these recommended intervals for secure installation:

The snap-fit Vulcathene pipe clips retain the pipe securely while allowing for linear movement due to temperature changes. For vertical runs exceeding typical lengths in 76mm and 102mm sizes, where thermal movement may cause strain, use metal straps for retention. Metal hangers are recommended for suspended Vulcathene pipework, and galvanized support channels should be used for horizontal runs in temperatures over 40°C (104°F).

Buried Pipes

When burying pipes, trenches should ideally be at least one meter deep and as narrow as feasible for proper consolidation. Ensure the trench bottom is level, free from rocks, debris, and sharp objects. Lay a 100mm bed of suitable pipe bedding at the trench bottom. Backfill with similar material, continuing until there's a 100mm layer over the pipe. Pipes can be jointed in the trench; however, if joined above ground, they should be allowed to cool sufficiently before installation.
